Course Objectives

Note that this course was prepared during the 2012-2013 USPAP cycle. Although changes to USPAP have been made since that time, the basic lessons taught in this course remain valid.

Making use of 15 videos (spanning over two hours of web casting) as well as numerous links to referenced resources and articles, the student will learn a time-proven method of preparing USPAP-complaint appraisal reports. Using the latest in presentation techniques, the student will learn:

  • The underlying USPAP requirements that form the basis for developing and reporting opinions of value
  • Typical report structure and types of report content
  • The driving forces behind report content
  • A complete sample appraisal report that reflects the requirements and best practices of the profession
  • Helpful tips to improve the appearance of your report
  • Designing and using a cover letter to convey your report to the client
  • Options for delivering the report to the client and for collecting payment
This presentation will keep you focused in a way that will help you understand and remember the intricacies of writing a professional personal property appraisal report.

Prerequisites

There are no prerequisites for this course, though students having had the 15-hr National USPAP Course as well as a course in the fundamentals of appraising will benefit the most from this course.

Students have access to this course for 30 days. The fee for How to Write Appraisal Reports is $89.

The optional 127-page post-course review guide contains the entire course script, all course illustrations referenced throughout the course, and four sample appraisal report templates (for the intended uses of Federal donation, Federal estate, state estate, and acquing insurance coverage). Cost is $29 (available only to registered students).

Lesson Requirements

The Tasks in each topic are intended to be completed in the order in which they are presented. While tempting to skip around, the tasks are sequential and build on those that came prior. So, please complete the tasks in the order presented.

This course has no exams or final projects.

Upon completion of this online course, the author recommends that professional associations and societies credit the student with seven contact hours.
